Canary Island Holidays In Lanzarote
The Canaries are a seven strong group of islands located off the west coast of Africa. But despite this location they are in fact owned by Spain – who conquered this archipelago back in the 1400´s. Using the islands as a springboard for their creation of empire in the New World.
Today the islands are very much reliant on tourism and Tenerife is probably the best known destination in the chain. Lanzarote is the fourth largest of the islands and located closest to the African coast. Boasting a very dry and arid climate and quite barren terrain. Much of it shaped by massive volcanic activity that totally transformed the interior during the 18th and 19th centuries.
The majority of the islands visitors are drawn from the UK and flights to Lanzarote for British tourists are especially cheap thanks to the fact that the major budget airlines such as easyJet all compete on this route. With all arrivals touching down at Arrecife airport in the centre of the island.
Holidays in Lanzarote feature in all of the main tour operators brochures and have been popular even since the 1970´s. When Lanzarote was viewed as an exotic new destination. This novelty factor has obviously worn off since then but the island remains very popular, thanks to its great beaches and excellent weather. Along with good standards of accommodation and a wealth of tourist attractions.
Over the last five years or so a growing number of visitors have started to book their own accommodation direct online. So driving demand for Lanzarote villas and apartments. With the remainder booking breaks in one of the island’s many hotels or aparthotels. Which combine self catering facilities with the amenities and facilities of a hotel.
Wherever tourists stay there’s plenty for them to do and see – as Lanzarote offers much more than beaches and sunshine alone. The best known and most popular attraction are the volcanoes of the Timanfaya National Park. No need to worry though as these are all now dormant. But the scenery here is really spectacular – so much so that it has recently featured in the latest release from Warner’s – Clash of the Titans 3. As well as being used a backdrop in the past for numerous science fiction films such as One Million Years BC.
It´s possible to visit Lanzarote at any time of the year but the best period is usually autumn for those seeking the most settled weather.
