South Africa – Along the Sabie River
Posted in ->Package Holidays
Waking up to the sound of the Woodlands Kingfisher and the Hippos in the river makes this place such a serene and African experience. First thing in the morning is my favourite time. Most holiday makers are still asleep except the few on their early morning 18 holes. The only sounds you hear are the sounds of nature. The air is still fresh and cool, the dew is still thick on the vast expanse of lawn, the herons are waiting patiently for their breakfast, and even the hippos look refreshed and ready for a new day. This beautiful arena of peace situated on the Sabie River has been my family holiday experience for at least 15 years. It was one of the first holidays we had in South Africa. As foreigners from the UK, to see a hippopotamus right from your lounge was surreal.
If you looking for a place to take the family, young and old, this is it. It has been a fascinating journey to watch. When I think back to what the place was like when we were kids and how it has changed it brings back many wonderful memories. The thatch houses are constantly being upgraded and always for the better. Every year there is something new, a new fan or a new appliance. There is so much effort put into your relaxing holiday experience, it shows how passionate and proud the management and staff are.
As far as entertainment goes there is a full bar and hotel where there is always some activity going on. Things like karaoke, bingo or darts are a common group activity found in the bar. If that is not for you there is a delightful restaurant that offers some of the most interesting and delectable meals. Offering a buffet breakfast, light lunches and three course dinners this gives something to everyones taste buds.
For those avid golfers there is an 18 whole golf course complete with caddys and golf carts. Surrounding the course are beautiful examples of plant and bird life. The course also borders on the Sabie River where hippos and crocodiles are commonly seen.
I can truly say this beautiful and tranquil venue is the perfect place to get away from it all and still have all the luxuries you want and need. We go every December and after a year of hard work, sweat and tears our family can once again come together and just be with each other with no expectations. Everyone just does what they feel like doing be it swimming, golfing, sun tanning, fishing or just going out for a drive amongst the beautiful Mpumalanga scenery.
No other holiday destination can repeatedly get the same response from me year after year, and give me the week of fun, sun and peace I always need. Situated in the heart of Hazy view this is by far the greatest holiday experience that suits everyone young and old.
